1989年，大衛(wèi)·林奇拍了Twin Peaks: Pilot ，講述FBI探員Dale Cooper 去雙峰鎮(zhèn)，調(diào)查女中學(xué)生Laura Palmer被謀殺事件。以大衛(wèi)·林奇的一貫作風(fēng)，整出片子到處充滿了神秘事件和詭異疑點(diǎn)，而且沒有結(jié)局可言。這大概引起了觀眾的不滿，或者好奇心。于是，電視臺(tái)或是創(chuàng)作班底決定以這個(gè)為起點(diǎn)，將它發(fā)展成一部連續(xù)劇。出于神秘的原因，David Lynch不愿擔(dān)任導(dǎo)演，而是出任執(zhí)行監(jiān)制，找了另外的導(dǎo)演來拍攝這部劇集。結(jié)果Twin Peaks第1集就已經(jīng)是一部續(xù)集，這就是為什么在第1集時(shí)的片頭就有“雙峰之前”，交代前面的故事。                                                                      　　大衛(wèi)·林奇的《雙峰》是美國(guó)90年代最為著名的電視劇之一。曾榮獲1990年美國(guó)電視評(píng)論協(xié)會(huì)大獎(jiǎng)，1997年美國(guó)金球獎(jiǎng)最佳男女主角獎(jiǎng)，1991年美國(guó)艾美獎(jiǎng)8項(xiàng)大獎(jiǎng)，1991年美國(guó)廣播協(xié)會(huì)最佳電視劇獎(jiǎng)，而大衛(wèi)·林奇也因此登上了《時(shí)代》雜志的封面。                                                                      　　這部劇集與大衛(wèi)?林奇的電影作品有很大不同之處，人物眾多但個(gè)性分明，故事線索分支不多但劇情峰回路轉(zhuǎn)，許多人被Lora的死亡之迷所吸引，也為偵探怪異的偵破方式著迷，雖然到最后也在電視版本中也沒交代謎底（雖然林奇宣稱他在第二集告訴了觀眾兇手是誰(shuí)了），但對(duì)人類欲望中產(chǎn)階級(jí)的生活的剖解的相當(dāng)深刻。而林奇的忠實(shí)影迷也不會(huì)失望，整部劇集所呈現(xiàn)的特異風(fēng)格，糾結(jié)了怪誕唯美與迷離的氣氛，都是大衛(wèi)?林奇的經(jīng)典本色。其中Lora還被《Time》譽(yù)為電視史上最性感的死尸 。                                                                      　　The story begins with the murder of Laura Palmer, a teen aged girl who lived in the quiet town of Twin Peaks, near the US - Canadian borders. Everyone seems surprised and devastated by the girl's murder, and the town's sherif welcomes the help of FBI agent Dale Cooper, who comes to investigate the case. As Cooper begins his search for Laura's killer, the town's secrets are gradually exposed. This is definitely not an average quiet town, it seems as everyone has something big to hide. At nights, agent Cooper sees strange visions of Laura and other mysterious people, visions that tell him that something big is happening here, something far more evil than a single murder case...
